Gideon Tazelaar

tenor saxophone

Gideon Tazelaar (Hilversum, the Netherlands, 1997) can easily be considered the best new Dutch tenorist on the international scene. Trained by fellow Dutch saxophonist Benjamin Herman and legendary drummer John Engels from a young age, Tazelaar moved to New York City in 2017 to study at the Juillard School of Music.

In New York, he was mentored by George Coleman and Wynton Marsalis, who invited him to join the ranks of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on four separate occasions – the most recent one being at the iconic Concertgebouw in The Netherlands in 2020. In the same year, Tazelaar recorded his debut album, Volume 1, featuring Ian Cleaver, Felix Moseholm and the wanted Spanish drummer Jorge Rossy.
