Bert Joris (Antwerp, Belgium, 1957), decorated Belgian trumpeter, cannot be pigeonholed. An internationally lauded trumpeter and performer, an award-winning composer – his music was performed by ’The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra’ as well as the ‘ Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra – and sought-after arranger, Joris also played a key role in developing jazz departments at several conservatoires around the world, traveled the globe as a film composer, and continues to play, tour, educate, compose, and arrange, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Reaping success since the release of his first quartet album in 1986, Joris has performed with greats such Mel Lewis, Jimmy Cobb, Clark Terry, Lee Konitz,Joe Lovano, Philippe Catherine, Enrico Pieranunzi, WDR & HR Bigband, Metropole Orchestra and many others. His arrangements and compositions have been embraced and commissioned by many, including a longstanding collaboration with Brussels Jazz Orchestra. 

His deep understanding of both bigband and smaller ensemble composing, arranging, and educating, makes Joris the perfect leader for Vol.3, Jazz Master Tracks’ first larger ensemble release. Here, Joris presents his own compositions and arrangements, whilst also honoring his experience as an international educator, joined by some of the best players on the European scene.
