Antal ‘Tony’ Lakatos

Antal “Tony” Lakatos (Budapest, 1958), one of Europe’s leading tenor and soprano saxophonists, is based in Frankfurt, Germany. He is a descendant of the famous Lakatos musical gipsy dynasty. Since the late 1980s he has led his own ensembles with personnel including Joanne Brackeen, Terri Lyne Carrington, Al Foster, Billy Hart and Anthony Jackson. He has also worked with Randy Brecker, Kevin Mahogany, George Mraz, the Mingus Big Band, Kirk Lightsey, Art Farmer and Kenny Werner, among others. He has played as lead soloist in the Frankfurt Radio Big Band for 28 years, and continues to tour extensively with his own groups. He also offers master classes and workshops around the world.
