Alex Sipiagin (Jaroslavl, 1967) is a Russian-born trumpet and flugelhorn player who has distinguished himself in bands led by Dave Holland, Michael Brecker, David Binney, Donny McCaslin and more. In addition to his extensive work with the Mingus Big Band, Mingus Dynasty and Mingus Orchestra, he has recorded prolifically as a leader for Criss Cross and other labels. He is also a founding member of the jazz supergroup Opus 5 with Seamus Blake, David Kikoski, Boris Kozlov and Donald Edwards. His teaching activities include New York University Steinhardt, Groningen Prince Claus Conservatory and the Academy of Music in Basel, Switzerland.
